IF: Wide (Fat Fairies)

These wide mouth little guys are set to get ever wider tummies as they work their way through this pile of fairy cakes.
The colour version is my first effort with digital colour / Photoshop, which is a media I'm completely clueless in...any advice gladly received!

My first idea was actually to have a large snail making its way along a narrow lane, the snail would have been a 'wide load' due to an extended shell - visualise porches, turrets, extra rooms... Unfortunately I couldn't make this work, would love to see someone else to have a go!

I think the colors came out nice - they have a painterly look rather than looking "Photoshopped". Cute concept.

Love the fairies, Bee. They have a lot of cakes left to eat!

I did a version of your snail. I uploaded it here if you'd like to see it. Just a quick sketch. Will color it as time permits.

Aw..
I like the fairies hats!

Keep working with photoshop, it feels like theres always more to learn. I think Jennifer Morris (the bunny a few above you) has a link to a great blog on photoshop.
I find photoshop a great program to experiment in. =)

Great job on your first photoshop attempt, I never would have known! They are so stinkin' cute, I can hardly stand it! One thing I like to do in photoshop, once you get to learn more about brushes and all that, is scan in lots of textures to use as brushes and backgrounds and all that. You'll have lots of fun!

Ooooooh, I love these guys. How can you not love a fat fairy? I ask you... how? Your work is just adorable!

I also liked your idea for the snail and Tom did a great job with it. Great collaboration going on around here!

This is too cute! I like the idea and how the cupcakes are arranged.

I started working in Photoshop about a year ago, thanks to IF. As many others said, it is fun to experiment with and there's always something to learn or improve. The only advice I have is to play with layers, scan textures from things you have laying around (papers, fabric, plastic wraps) and use them to add a stronger dimension.
It helps a great deal to have a Wacom Tablet too! :)
Hope it helps...

I think those fairies had more than their fill, but for someone with a high metabolism like mine, its no problem, sure hope they have one too. Either way, great job, the one trying to climb made me laugh, thanks. Goodluck with photoshop. something I have not really tried as well. Trying to get into clor pencils, great dragons by the way.
